Podiatry for horses – Canadian Quarter Horse Association

You've probably all heard the saying “no hoof, no horse” – in our experience, truer words have never been spoken. That's why we think it's so significant to know what's going on in your horse's hooves so we can trim and shoe the hooves when necessary to prevent injury and pain.

When we take a series of podiatric x-rays, we generally take two images of each foot that are specifically for the purpose of assessing the foot from a podiatric perspective. These x-rays allow us to measure significant details of the foot that can be used to make adjustments to the way it is shod. We can assess the balance of the foot and joints, bone angles, plantar depth, and whether the foot is being appropriately weight-bearing.
