The award winner Fresh South Wales (HRNSW) has announced another nationwide consultation process with its industry stakeholders from next month.
In the sessions, the microscope on topics such as the National Rating (No.) System/Matrix, Raceday programming and handicapping are provided.
Peter Buckman, Chief Executive Officer from HRNSW, said that the initiative matches the strategic plan of the organization.
“Racing programs and handicaping are currently one of the most controversial matters in the industry,” said Buckman.
The national evaluation basis system was taken over in most Australian states, including NSW, from 2019 and forms the basis of the programming system in NSW.
The programming of races and racing allocation aims to maximize the field sizes and races and give the participants the opportunity to drive weekly, but HRNSW has introduced a number of races that are specific for this state to maximize these efforts.
These include individual code meetings (which enable races to be divided at the same time), concessions for 2yo and 3yo horses, women and younger drivers, races that are constrained to lifelong victories escalate virgins (non-winners) races, races that are constrained by age and races with preference up to linders trained horses.
The organization's annual report 2023-24 found that in several regions, HRNSW had a record number of horses in races, with an average of 9.19 starters per race across the state.

Mr. Buckman said the nationwide consultation aimed to collect input of participants in all regions in order to form a more effective system.
“We encourage all participants to take part in the forums and to contribute respectfully. We have expanded the roadshow event locations to ensure that all regions are represented and that the participants have different options for participating.”
The meetings should begin at 7 p.m. in the following locations:
- Monday, April 28th – Wagga Paceway
- Tuesday, April 29 – Bathurst Paceway
- Wednesday, April 30th – Menangle Paceway – Pavilion Bar
- Thursday, May 1st – Newcastle Paceway
- Monday, May 5th – Tamworth – Wests Leagues Club
- Wednesday, May 7th – Penrith Paceway
- Thursday, May 8th – Goulburn Paceway
