The Ashburton cable tree racing coach John Morrison trained a double at yesterday's Methven Meeting and achieved his 50th training success.

In race 1 the moment of the Methven resort and the opuke warm pools trot lotties moment (Majestic son) was too forceful. Done from Morrison, four -year -old majestic son Mare began from her unruly brand to colonize the midfield. Morrison peeled on the top of the straight and let the mare down and showed a forceful foot turn to break away and win with three lengths from the second -placed macho.

“Sometimes she can still be a bit strange, which is why I put her unruly,” said Morrison.

“As soon as she learns how to be a racehorse, she will be fine. She has a little speed.”

Lottie's moment is driven by “Half of Ashburton”, but her victory was special when she was bred and trained by the delayed Katie Cox.

“Katie (Cox) did the horse. She trained and drove it as a two -year -old who made three starts three times. It shows how good she was from a shepher.”

The win of 50 for Morrison was Destiny's Dream in race 6, the mobile pace Advanced Joinery Ltd (invited driver) with Maurice McKendry Mnzm in the Sulky.

McKendry and Destiny's Dream were able to get a gentle lead that they held on the line and held the challenges to win on one neck.

“She is a stunning horse. Ben Waldron did all the work with her early. She worked well on Monday, so I thought she wasn't far away,” said Morrison about her victory.

Morrison's first training victory was no fears in Addington in December 2018.

Other highlights of the program were a back to form of herbie for co-trainers/driver Colin Defilippi in the Brown Pub Methven Mount Hutt TC Cup. It was the eighth career win of the sports journalists Walling and the first since December 2023.

The driver Samantha Ottley also recorded a hat trick of victories in the Sulky (Newbiemains Arden, Louis and Aveross Majesty), but that was not enough to win the Roseland Racing Drivers Challenge, which was won by Team Legends (Ricky May, Maurice McKendry and Tony Herlihy).
