As the entry period approaches quickly, the connections of journalism decide to no longer wait and announced that the winner of the Santa Anita Derby and Woodford Reserve Vice-Master presented Kentucky Derby will take his next start in the $ 2 million freakness at the Pimlico Race course on May 17th.
Coach Michael McCarthy returned to Kentucky on May 11th to monitor the training of the Colt. On Sunday afternoon, co-owner Eclipse full blood partners announced via X that journalism is entered in the middle jewel of the Triple Crown.
They wrote that McCarthy has him “greenlight” to run in the prevention. Eclipse added that they are looking forward to presenting the talents of journalism in Baltimore in such a coveted American classic with jockey Umberto Rispoli in the iron.
With the regular training leader Marc Witkowski on board, journalism galloped on Sunday morning at 9:12 a.m., about 2 1/2 hours later than usual, a little more than one mile on the main route from Churchill Downs. The Curlin Colts schedule was adjusted to give McCarthy time to make it from Keeland, where he used to have a few horses in the training tab in the morning.
“I don't see a massive difference,” said McCarthy that the Colt train was personally seen for the first time since the derby on May 3. “He is a horse that carries a lot of substance, a lot of condition. He looked very, very good this morning.”
Despite the positive evaluation of the training, McCarthy was non -binding after the training session on Sunday. The entries are due on May 12th, with the postal position being pulled at 7 p.m. McCarthy seemed to be satisfied to wait for the decision of journalism to be submitted until the deadline.
“We'll see what will bring tomorrow,” said McCarthy. “Talk to everyone, bring the partners together and decide tomorrow.”
But something changed the timeline and McCarthy and the partners not to wait anymore.
In addition to Eclipse full blood partners, the owner group Bridlewood Farm, Don Alberto Stable, Robert Lapenta, Elayne Stables 5, Ms. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.
“It is a group of people who are all well trained and are familiar in such things.” McCarthy said of the partners. “They were great. They support what we decided.”
McCarthy said the two -week turnaround did not affect him because the Colt started three times in seven weeks last autumn. He won the last two starts, including the Los Alamitos Futurity. However, he blew that the rest of the year weighed what he would look like if he should run.
“He is a horse that has been proven that he is okay during the low break. I don't worry too much over the two weeks,” said McCarthy. “Only, you know it's a long year.”
As far as the competition is concerned, the versatility of journalism in a race seems to be an advantage that seems to have several pace competitors and conclusions.
“I have taken a look at the probabilities, it is a competitive location,” said McCarthy. “It looks as if it is a bit of speed, you would expect that. It is a triple crown race, you expect it to be competitive.”
