Hewitt smiles in Sweden

The early signs are good.

NSW Horseman Brad Hewitt was impressed by what he saw when he arrived in Stockholm on Tuesday to reconcile with his stable strap -racing star The Lokomotive (Muscle mass).

It is the first time that Hewitt has gone to the Inter -Dominion winner to Sweden since his beginning last month.

“It looks good, not too gaunt and not too hard,” he said. “It looks like he has settled well and did a good job with him.

“Everything I've really done so far is to take it for an uncomplicated job, but he seemed to be shrewd.”

Hewitt is in Stockholm to optimize the locomotive for the best trot race in the world, the Elitlopp, on May 25th in Solvalla.

“I will know more about where he is when I take him at first glance at Solvalla (Thursday morning Swedish),” he said.

“I think they let me put him behind the starting gate.

“It won't be until I give him a real blow that I know exactly where it is, but the timing works well.”

The first speech of a possible lead-up race now appears from the table.

“I don't think. We have the chance to bring him back to Solvalla next week, which will be removed 10 days before the elitelopp.” Said Hewitt.

“I still find my feet myself, but here you have a fantastic 1000 -M track on which it is stable and the work we can do here, combined with a few trips to Solvalla, should have it where we need it.

“I will see this training and this Solvalla, see where it is and start to get everything in order.”

Hewitt himself was confronted with an unusual chilly festival.

“It freezes. I think it was a tip of about three degrees (Celcius) yesterday and that doesn't include the Windchill factor,” he said. “It's bloody chilly.”

The locomotive is only the fourth from Aussie trained trot to contest the elitelopp.

If you include Novel Zealand, the only Down Under Trotter who reached the Elitlopp final was proud of Petite, who ran fourth in the 1997 final and sixth place.
