James Herbertson James Herbertson, the leading racing driver of the Australia, packs his bags to spend time in the USA and Sweden.
After the 25-year-old took out the title of Australian national drivers last season last season last season with 370 victories, the 25-year-old flies up again this season with 88 victories.
But he temporarily left everything behind when he can spend five weeks in the USA in the Ron Burke stable on Sunday (April 13th), who is the all-time leader of Gurtracing in Siegen and Issurts (more than 15,000 victories and $ 335 million).
Herbertson will then go to Sweden for Elitloppet and organize coach Jörgen Westholm, who welcomed another adolescent Victorian Rückmann Ryan Sanderson last year.
Herbertson said that the win of the Adolescent Guns series in 2024, which carried the trip to Sweden as a price, got the ball rolling.
“I wanted to do this and plan it for a while (a trip to the USA) before I won the adolescent weapons. When I won, it just worked in the fact that I was able to put together everything together with two trips with a 24-hour flight every time,” said Herbertson.
“I'm on the way on Sunday and can't wait!”
Herbertson, who is clear again in the National Leading Trivers Board this season, said it was a challenging decision, but an incredible chance.
“There is never a good time as a driver, because there are always some races that you miss that are outside the ordinary – and it happens to be the APG series while I'm gone, which is a bit disappointing,” he said.
“But there is never really the right time to go – it's just something that if you want to do it, you just have to prepare it,” he said.
Herbertson's decision had driven the opportunity to learn and develop his craft and knowledge.
“It's just a great opportunity to gain experience and learn as much as possible,” he said.
“You never hear from someone who has a bad word to say there – it is always positive. Everyone who has ever been will tell them that they do it and they have to experience it and they have to listen to them, I think.”
Herbertson will work at Ron Burke's stables and initially stay with the former Aussie Brad Chisholm, who is now working in the United States.
“I will work for Ron, drive a trackwork and hopefully pick up a few trips here and there,” said Herbertson.
“You will give me as much opportunity as possible without moving your usual drivers. They were quite positive and in this way it was quite generous, which is great.
“Jamie Durnberger-Smith from Summit Bloodstock was a gigantic part of connecting to (American owner) Mark Weaver and Ron Burke.
On May 20, Herbertson will fly to Sweden shortly before Elitloppet (May 23 to 25 in May).
“I will work there for Jörgen Westholm during Elitloppet and then work for another 10 days later and learn as much from him as possible.”
Herbertson said he would be back in Australia in mid -June and again on the track.
“Hopefully people have not forgotten me! As many people were as good to me when I got through and I hope I can return to the groove without too many problems!”
