HRH The Princess Royal flanked by Dawn Goodfellow and Richard Phillips | Focus on racing
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal was in Newmarket last week to address Racing Welfare's annual carol concert in Tattersalls.
Princess Anne, an experienced equestrian and former Olympic eventer, is president of Racing Welfare and has a long association with turf, having previously ridden in amateur racing. Her speech to the sold-out concert included an overview of the importance of the work Racing Welfare does to support the UK horse racing workforce.
The concert raised £4,740 for Racing Welfare's pastoral ministry, led by Pastor Simon Bailey, national horse racing chaplain.
“Everyone at Racing Welfare would like to thank Her Royal Highness, in her role as President of Racing Welfare, for taking part in our Christmas carol concert this year,” said Dawn Goodfellow, chief executive of Racing Welfare.
“Her Royal Highness spoke so passionately about the importance of community and the work of Racing Welfare, and it was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate the holidays while thinking about the needs of others.
“I would like to thank everyone who was involved in organizing, delivering or donating items for the concert and everyone who attended. A very special thank you also goes to Penny Taylor, Godolphin UK's Charity Manager, who has organized our concerts for the last three years and made a huge difference to Racing Welfare, raising awareness of our services and generating much-needed funds. “
