With a population of around 1000 longer, the Ouyen community until the early 2000s meet around eight to ten meetings each year with an energetic committee and a solid local horse population that included names like Caldow, Jardine, Munro, Retallick and others.

And while it is now the only meeting in the Ouyen Club season, there is still an unmistakable sum on the Cup day.

“We are absolutely enthusiastic about the support that we received from owners, coaches and drivers from a huge area,” said enthusiastic President Daniel Floyd, who is in the role in his fifth term.

“There is an excellent field for our tariff cup and some forceful fields in the other races, and we have programmed eight races.

“A lot of work is in the preparation of the route and it is in great order so that the stage is set to thrilling races.”

And while the races for the 769-meter racetracks are always competitive, Ouyen Cup Day is also one of the most vital annual community events in the city.

“The whole city is behind it – it is like a community meeting. The weather looks great and the lawn is in great form, so we expect a huge amount again, even though it is a very busy time of the year, and the moment appears,” he said.

“In the club, everything revolves around volunteers, with the exception of some less than the employee of the course and the veterinarian on Raceday. Everyone is committed and we are all satisfied with the way things are going. I am very elated to have such a good committee.”
