Gosger wins Keeland's Lexington Stakes, preakness could be next

The talented Gosger achieved his first mission victory by setting two lengths with two long-term speed to win the Stonestreet Lexington Stakes of $ 400,000 on April 12th on the Keeland Race Course.

With Gosger, coach Brendan Walsh now seems to have a candidate for the second stage of the Triple Crown to have the preacness stakes on May 17th in Pimlico.

When he commented on the prevention, “it is a possibility,” said Walsh, although he was later added: “We will stay placid and choose our places with him and see how we go.”

The 1 3/16 mile prevalence, which will be controversial in five weeks in five weeks, is a sixteenth mile shorter than the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve and often has a field that is half as immense as the derby.

Gosger ran like a 3-year-old in the Lexington with a brilliant future and was still showing signs of inexperience. For a immense part of the race in the Inside -Off -Boff Bracket Busters Fractions from: 23.73, 47.62 and 1: 12.27, the pace was followed in fourth place. He kept a clamp Buster with about a Furlong and pulled away slow.

“He is a really nice horse,” said Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr .. “He ran a little green on the alley and looked around. I tried to stay straight and keep it concentrated. He was very impressive.”

Gosger was defined in a moderate run in a quick track in 1: 44.15 on a quick track with a last sixteenth mileage: 06.60. A second Maiden graduate in his last start on February 15, when Gosger raced a mile in the Gulfstream Park, Gosger returned $ 2.60 for a winning desk.

Vicki Oliver, coach of the comeback-placed Bracket Buster, said that she was satisfied with the performance of her 3-year-olds after a dismissal and that the prevention together with other missions would be a consideration.

Praetor, who stuck into the route between the calls that stuck shortly in front of his head, made it slow in his two-gymnastics debut, but managed to keep third place, while another 3 1/2 lengths behind the second place. Hypnus ran fourth. Bullard was fifth in the seven-horse field.

The Lexington was the last Kentucky Derby Prep race this season. The victory brought Gosger 20 qualification points, which represents an inadequate balance sheet to get the entry into the Kentucky Derby field.
