“I really enjoyed it. I only do it as a hobby, but it is unreal – because if it comes into your blood, it is there forever,” said Buhagiar from Roxburgh Park, an external suburb of the Victorian capital.

“If I don't have a horse at work, I don't know what to do with myself. I'm lost,” he laughed.

Buhagiar has had some handy horses over the years, and now he enjoys success with the beautifully bred six -year -old Mare Dancingonstarlight (Follow the stars), a winner at her last two outings in Cranbourne and Melton.

“She takes a lot of work and seems to enjoy the heat work that I do with her. I run her with my wife Julie and our good friend Geoff [Dodd]And we have a lot of fun, ”he said.

“There was never doubt that she had the ability – it was only that we had some problems. But we are up to date at the moment and she is joyful and sound. While she is missing a high speed, it is so forceful and powerful.

“She really won in Melton (April 25) at her last start, and I think her Mile rate was 1: 55.9. I have a week free. This season she finished with three wins and four places of 11 starts.”

Dancingonstarlight is from the former outstanding Racemare -Twinkletes (tips Top Prince), which had 16 wins and 15 placements of 48 starts to achieve an income of over 150,000 US dollars.

Dodd won seven races with twinkletes before she trained in the early 2000s to Buhagiar. He won another nine with the mare, including the 100,000 dollar queen of the Pacific, which was driven by John Caldow in May 2001.

“She was an astonishing horse that had so much gate speed. When I had her, it was the best fun we had ever had in the string.

“When I grew up, my father Sam loved the trots, and I vaguely remember the meetings on the show grown. It was like a family outing and we met with other relatives. One of my cousins, Frank, trained horses – first in Diamond Creek and later in Arthurs Creek.

“My first horse was appointed rain command and I leased it in front of Kevin Hill. It won at his first start and won seven races, including one in Moonee Valley. I trained on Papa's estate in Bulla, where I had a very tiny route.

“After he met Geoff, he offered me twinkletes. I had her for eight or nine weeks and soon realized that she was a pretty horse.

“Geoff did not interfere, but when our neighbor Geoff Proposch brought an 850 -M route and invited me to work quickly with him, Twinkletes really improved.

“Most of my winners in the last 40 or 50 starters that I have come to get to know Geoff.”
