De Barra Trusts Maries Diamond will take opportunities

This is an edition of Daily morning -e mail from racing post's good morning Bloodstock What comes out every weekday morning. It was presented on the Racing Post website on January 19. In this issue, Martin Stevens talks to Ciarán de Barra by Diamond Stud Bellewstown about his pride and joy.

The sales talk of Ciaráan de Bar for his modern father Maries diamond Was long and detailed in detail, but this week has grown again since the horse's full brother Sindorian won in the debut in the Wolverhampton on January 16.

“It does seven foals, seven runners and seven winners for the mare,” the ebully -new participant shines in the stallion business. “It was bought by Ballylinch Stud for € 315,000 ($ 385,067), and another of her sons, Sikandarabad, was group 1 in Australia.

If the success of a stallion depended exclusively on the energy of its owners, Maries Diamond would be a champion many times. De Barra, who brought a similar drive and commitment to his previous role as management assistant to the Irish National Stud, even named his modern stud after the horse.

“I bought Diamond Stud Bellewstown in 2021,” he says. “It was in the harvest after I had to do a little work before I arrived to bring it back to the grass.

“So I thought what I need now is a stallion and went out and bought Maries Diamond. It will only go on foot this year, because I only have the stallion boxes, the stable next to you and the cover sheds.

“All of my mares are currently on land that I rented five minutes away. Hopefully next year I will be able to foal some external mares on the farm. This is the next job on the list.”

Diamond Stud Bellewstown is surrounded by breeder in County Meath and is not far from Tara Stud, but it was the northernmost stop at ITM Irish Hengstweg last week. However, this didn't deter many visitors.

“We were away from many main routes of people on the way, but we still have loads through the goal,” says de Barra. “Anyone who saw Maries Diamond loved him what is not surprising because he is a rapper, and they either book or spread the word about him.

“This exposure was really significant because we are a modern farm and it is crucial to get the name out there. People are used to going to the same bolts that they always went to is just human nature, so we have to do something to draw it.”

Other stallions on the way may be on longer -established farms and have higher profiles, but only a few are benefited from such passionate sales patterns as Maries Diamond.

“When I called, Roger noticed the purchase of the horse, the exact words he used,” he is good “and he was not; he is a real copy,” says de Barra and starts his game. “He is now gaining the last run in October and he looks good. He increases more presence all the time.

“He is also a attractive hiker and mover and he has a brilliant temperament. It is really basic to do with something, even though he likes to have a little nips from time to time.”

De Barra has some real peaches of lines when it comes to his takeover of Marie's Diamond's racing career.

“He recorded a quick time when he scored in the Anglesey Stakes.

“But then he also had the ability and durability to continue until the age of 7. During his entire career, he was up there with many good horses. He ran the fourth to ten sovereign and a miniature third of the Maximus, Space Blues and triple time in different races in the middle park.

“He was faster than Frankel too.”

Sorry, come back?

“This is the line with which I go,” laughs de Barra. “When he won the paradise missions with four and a half lengths, he achieved a time of 1: 34.47, which is faster than every two thousand guineas winners over eight Furlongs on the Rowley Mile and was less weight.

De Barra puts his money where his mouth is sent at least by Marie's Diamond all 10 of his own mares.

“This includes a Harry Angel sister of Rangali, who finished second in the Prix de l'abbaye,” he says. “I think mares from the Obscure Angel Line will fit Maries Diamant as one of Obscure Angel's daughters, Sonaiyla, who took a miniature third in the Flying Five for Paddy Twomey, is high up in his family tree.

“But then I think that there are a lot of lines that will work with him because he is an information for most other stallions. If you look back on it, many rag-to-judicism have such types of family trees cendargent, Le Havre, Wootton Bassett, you can even operate the Vega-SPE-SOPE-SEOPE-SEOPE-SOPE-SOPE.

Kendargent, who rose from almost totally shadowy, to a productive father of group winners, is a particularly wealthy source of inspiration for de Barra.

“He was a phenomenon and I want to compare it to Marie's diamond,” he says. “He won't have 150 mares directly from the bat either, but I will always take him under control, as Guy Parious with Kendargent did.”

De Barra may be better hopeful, but he is not a fool and has a business degree and a master's degree in accounting to prove this. Taking into account the many and diverse properties of Maries Diamond, but also his own position as a modern child on the block, what are his realistic expectations for the first season of the horse at Stud?

“I know that I can compete with larger farms, and it is intimidating to be fair,” he says. “But it's all about the horse, and I really believe in Marie's diamond. I have the trust that I am a good judge of a horse and procure the right animals, and I am sure that he is good enough to wear the lack of my own reputation as a stallion master.

“To be candid, whatever he does this year, I will not be enough for me, because in this growth poetry in which I want everything to be bigger and better. Realistically, we have booked 40 mares at the moment, and that will be very basic to get up to 80 a.m.

“I only had it on the farm shortly before Christmas. I did a little shops in Newmarket last month and brought in a few British breeders, but most of the bookings have been since the year.

The thumb crossed de Barra reaches these numbers. The stallion business needs a modern blood, both human and the same, and it would be an eye for the self -proclaimed experts for social media who criticized the horse.

Maries Diamond is a son of the classic winner <span class=Steps The father of 17 harvest to date. De Barra said that he had some people in question, Maries Diamond, a two-time mission winner who set up a 7-8-8 record from 65 starts, but he questions the certificates of the doubters.

Steps

“Yes, I saw some of them, people can be quite livid,” says de Barra with unusual despair before he gather and adds with his more common elated view: “I notice that most of them have no names or profile pictures. I would like to see their mares!

“How could someone say that a horse does not earn a chance for stud? He is a beauty; he has the same RPR as Havana Gray and shows, and higher than Obscure Angel, Kodiac and Mahmas. He was also incredibly solid, which is an invaluable quality in thoroughbred and is valued by breeders.

“I am confident that he will have winners because he has so much to offer. It is only up to me to make sure that he has the soldiers on the ground.

“As I look at it, I am common and the farm is common at the moment, but the horse is exceptional. I really think so.”

De Barra may describe itself as usual, but his bravery to take over the giants of the stallion world, and the exuberance is also exceptional. More power for him.
