Burnham Square Rallyes on an stimulating victory in Blue Gras Stakes

Eight years after they had run in the Kentucky Derby, Jockey Brian Hernandez Jr., coach Ian Wilkes and owner Janis Whitham from Whitham full blood are derby-bound again. These connections now have the Kentucky Derby of McCrakens Eighth, which has been qualified by Woodford Reserve, which has the Kentucky Derby from Woodford Reserve. Burnham Square.

Running on April 8th in Keeland, the 3-year-old gelding gathered the outer part of the main route to catch the Pacesetting East Avenue with one nose and win the $ 1.25 million Toyota Blue Gras Stakes.

The blue grass was the penultimate race on the street to the Kentucky Derby series, with only a compact preparation, the Stonestreet Lexington Stakes on April 12th in Keeland. The race on Tuesday distributed the qualification points for the derby on May 3 in Churchill Downs on a scale of 100-50-25-15-10 to its five best finishers. In combination with 30 earlier points that were earned in the series – 20 of which were made at the win of the Holy Bull Stakes – Burnham Square has now 130.

Since the Churchill Downs officers employ qualification points as a preference system for the derby if the first stage of the Triple Crown attracts more than the size of 20 horsepower capacities, Burnham Square in the race assures. The East Avenue also has enough points over sufficient points with 60 and Blue Grass Thirdplatzes Finisher River Thames to get a derby berry space with 50 points together with higher incomes with non-limited inserts than a few other 50-point earners.

Burnham Square doesn't just go to the derby. He goes there as a horse, which probably enjoys the 1 ¼ miles long distance of the first leg of the triple crown.

He acted 1 1/8 miles in the blue grass and passed three horses in the last eighth miles to prevail in the leisurely time. It was clocked in 1: 51.33, the slowest time in the blue grass since 2007, when Dominican had the same time over an all-weather main route in Keeland. The blue grass has been led to dirt since 2015.

Hernandez, who is known to save the ground, how he led the Kenny McPenek-trained mystic dan to victory in the Kentucky Derby last year, has instead made an outer route with Burnham Square, which was sent as 4.24-1 in a field of seven.

“For a 3-year-old who can be as long-term as it is today and can be able to achieve the winners of the first class, he is an stimulating horse with whom he can progress,” said Hernandez.

Hernandez replaced Edgard Zayas, who had driven the Burnham Square in Florida. Wilkes opted for a regular driver in Kentucky. Wilkes and Hernandez also have a story together; Hernandez was the driver of Janis WHTIHAMS FORT LARNED when the horse won the Whitney Stakes and Longines Breeders' Cup Classic in 2012.

Godolphin's East Avenue led to a enormous part of the blue grass after he had overtaken Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby winner Owen more almighty when he was sent demanding in the first round. He exchanged the lead from his right to the left when he remained the tracks on the main route with about a sixteenth miles – a mistake that may have proven to be high-priced. But the East Avenue fought to the wire, although it set swift divisions of 22.95 ,: 46.95, 1: 11.96 and 1: 37.89.

East Avenue's connections showed that he showed her enough to consider the derby. Godolphin also has the Coolmore fountain of the sovereignty of Youth Stakes winner on the race.

“I think he answered almost every call today,” said coach Brendan Walsh.

Fountain of Youth Stakes Vice -Mittel River Thames, who set the pace continuously, appeared a little empty in the final matters of the blue grass and ended the three quarters with a length behind the run.

Admiral Dennis and the judgment were different to collect derby points by taking fourth and fifth place. Owen Allmighty and the hopeful stakes and champagne-Stakes-Sieger-Chancer McPatrick showed both obvious distance restrictions in the sixth. The latter was the 2.58-1 Blue Grass favorite.

The map on Tuesday, which was postponed on April 5 for three days due to hefty rains in Kentucky and led to floods in some parts of the state, was led for the first time since 1988 on a weekday, which led to a reduced amount of blue base day.

The Blue Grass has produced 23 winners of the Kentucky Derby, with only the Street Sense 2007 took place in the past 30 years, which followed a section of four winners from 1990 to 1995. The winner of the Blue Grass Stakes winner Sierra Leone was the second in last year's Kentucky Derby, defeated a nose of mysticism.

Wilkes was closely involved with the feeling of street trained by Carl Nafzger and served as a deputy trainer. Wilkes was also the trainer of the Kentucky Derby winner from 1990, who was unpleasant for Nafzger.

Before Wilke's questions about Burnham Square asked a group of reporters on Tuesday, he had a call to Whitham to spread the laid son of Liams card from Scat Daddy Mare Linda in class 2.

“How about it?” Wilkes asked her before he looked his congratulations.

And how about Wilkes on Tuesday? In addition to winning the blue grass, he conquered the determined racing Madison Stakes with Positano Sunset.

“Can I do it again?” He asked with a smile.

It seems a possibility. Both seem to run in Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May, with the Sunset Sunset on the Derby City Distaffe Stakes presented by Kendall-Jackson Winery, only hours ahead of Burnham Square in the Kentucky Derby.
