“To win for Tom, who is a substantial part of the Riverton club, is really nippy,” said Hartness Racing trainer/driver Kirstin Green today after Bobbies Rock (A rock'n'roll dance) won the Carriers Arms Hotel Riverton Cup for RTC committee man Tom Kilkelly.
The six-year-old, after getting away safely, settled into third place but shuffled back a place when a Kerber climbed up to lead with a lap to run. The turning was in trouble with Bobbie's skirt second to last inside.
“I thought I reinforced it. On the back I thought I shouldn't have stayed in there. But luckily things fell into place and it worked. “
Green had to pull Bobbie's skirt over horses and he carried through the middle to beat Tobasco by three-quarters of a length.
“He felt good and still had a little bit left in the tank after that.”

The win was deserved as the horse's form in this preparation was solid.
“He always tries and even in the city (Invercargill) in his last start against the good horses when they ran home 54. He still drove away and made ground at the finish. He is a much better horse on the grass. He's just more relaxed. As a newborn horse he injured a foot so he has a bit of scar tissue on his coronary ligament. I think when the tracks are ponderous it makes it worse. If you go back to the beach or a cushioned track it's always better. “

Green didn't always like Bobbie's rock and at one point tried to fire him.
“I hated the horse a few years ago and told Tom to get rid of him. He had a really terrible attitude and would “step up” to you all the time and not the tempo. But every time we brought him back he got better and better and he's a handsome horse now. “
