Fozzy Stack shares his waste of the ramp delicate, the search for a good horse and more
There is a renowned quote that Benjamin Disraeli is attributed, says: “Talk to a man about himself and he will listen for hours.” The destitute antique Benjamin clearly never has a morning in the company of Fozzy Stack-a man who is allergic to any form of self-prices or veneration.
Fozzy sent a number of high -class winners for some of the biggest names of the sport. The 45-year-old, who officially took over the license from his legendary father Tommy in 2017, would prefer to talk about anything other than about his achievements in the game.
And there were many of them. Aspen Grove (Irish) (Justify) achieved a breakthrough at the highest level for Fozzy a few years ago when they landed the Belmont Oaks. This was an essential one because it came in the colors of the owner Craig Bernick, who is just as much a friend as a patron of the stable.
Then there is the fact that Fozzy sent a listed or group winner every year in which he held the license. Not a uniform performance for a trainer who in such a competitive jurisdiction as Ireland and for one who lasts his string on only 50 horses in most years.
Fozzy's ability to throw away unwanted questions or attention are even more impressive than these achievements on the route, as well as a persistent wasp that hovered in front of her face on a hot summer day.
Fozzy's lack of interest in dealing with tiny talk should not be considered icy or even rude. He's just not so wired. And you know what Fozzy's approach is refreshing in a game full of people who don't mind meeting their own horn. Unless, of course, you are a journalist.
“I prefer to talk to other people,” he says unapologist table and sneaks into a cigarette, while he takes over from the eldest of his three children, Emelia, outside of the jockeys Seamie Seaman Hefteanan and Joey Sheridan on a bitter icy morning.
“A good horse is a perilous thing in anyone,” he adds, adding any conversation from himself. “What good or bad coaches believe that they enjoyed success just because they came across a good horse. So I don't think this is a game in which you can become too selfish. Everything goes back to the horse. “

Irish 1,000 Guineas Heroine Tarascon (Irish) (Tirol {IRE}), Royal Ascot winner for Dolly (Irish) (Oratorio (Irish}) and Prix Morny Scorer Myboycharlie (Irish) are just a few of the high-class horses that were formed from this renowned base of Golden in the district base. Tarascon was led to Classic Glory by the then 17-year-old Jockey Jamie Spencer, who was at school at school and always describes the trainer “quite silent”, but “able to be able to be able every year.
Such feelings were repeated by Hefernan, who has become an increasingly essential part of the operation since his role at Ballydoyle last year.
“Some boys love to listen to Sh*t and not others,” said Heftfernan. “Like Jesus Christ, part of the garbage you have to hear in this game is terrifying. And then some boys will treat this garbage as a gospel. This is not Fozzy's style. He doesn't say much, but he can train well. “
Heftfernan continued: “Fozzy was one of the boys who called me immediately after I left Ballydoyle. I've been winning for him for many years, but it is becoming increasingly hard for people like him to compete with the large boys who have billionaire owners. There is no agenda with Fozzy. He only wants to be surrounded by good horses, take care of the people who are closest to him and earn his living.
“I could Fozzy ask everything-I would say everything cash! But seriously, I could ask him to lend a hand myself with everything, and he would do the best he could. I think he's a bit misunderstood. He probably doesn't sell. He can train you if he gets one, but unfortunately it will be hard to get you. You cannot make a silk wallet out of the ear of a sow. “
There may be no obvious flag carrier who can look forward to this season, but last year's Irish Lincolnshire winner Chazzesmee (Irish) (Excelebration (ire) (IRE) (Fresh Bay {GB}) “have the chances of being a nice three year antique,” said the trainer.
But the reality of the situation is that this is a sales yard. A compact scan by the winners of the past year tells you everything you need to know because most highly rated horses have been sold to continue your career abroad.
“The price money is so bad in this country,” says Fozzy. “It is not worth keeping these ordinary horses around the place. And if you get a good thing that you are offered to go to America or Hong Kong or wherever it is, you would not win it in prize money in Ireland in six years, which is really wrong. I think it's a complete shame that you could have a horse with 100, and if he manages to win a listed race, he only gets a little more than 20 giants because he has won in Ireland. That would not feed him for half a year! Well, that's a good horse. So imagine you try to keep the smaller ones. Price money in Ireland is Sh*t. We went more money in 2008 or 2009 than today, and the costs for the spread of the horse to the races have now risen triple. “
For this reason, Fozzy is quite unique in that he has parts of the majority of horses in his care. “Too many,” he admits. However, the business aspect of the business has increased due to the stagnant of Irish racing that remained in rising costs. It is on sale in which Fozzy could accommodate the gap.
He explained: “The sales are a very essential part of my business. Whenever you buy a horse, you have to live and die from this horse as long as you have it. You have to appear and work tough. It is probably something that I picked up from my father. In the past, he worked tough and always exchanged years and foals or whatever. I would usually buy the Sprintery/Miler type. But annuals were very hard to buy last year. I would have parts in many horses here. Actually too many of them. But you will not make any money in training fees. “
He added: “But I have trained here since my father had meningitis. He almost died, do you know? He got the last right and everything. That was Christmas from '98. I was only 19 at the time. I worked there for a summer in Chantilly-Went for Nicolas Clement to learn French. And then I was with John Dunlop before my father got diseased. I was only there for three or four months and had to come home and I've been here since then. I had plans to go to Australia or America like any other adolescent guy, but that's how it worked. “
Since Fozzy corresponds to the parachute to take over Tommy, who is 80 years antique in November, the goal has remained the same. Remove an animal in group 1. Few people have recently supported this outfit as much as the American owner Bernick.
The couple was introduced to each other by Bloodstock Agent Hubie de Burgh almost a decade ago, and the relationship has become strength from strength. Together with Aspen Grove, Bernick was portrayed by noble guys like Castle Star (IRE), they send me (ire) (star spangbanner {from}) and Woody Creek (GB) (Zoffany (Zoffany {ire}), with the two -year basilica of St. know about talking about yourself.
“In all areas of life, it is much easier to find people who are great speakers but can do nothing. It is to find those who know exactly what they do but do not make self -promotion to their priority,” replies Bernick when he asked to summarize his coach.
“With Fozzy he has a very good understanding of his horses and their skills and he is also pretty good in one auction. Many coaches have the feeling that they have to tell a story to keep a horse in their barn. But not Fozzy. He only wants a horse if the mission can fulfill it and he is not a sugar coating.
“Fozzy and I come together to 10 years, who work together and above all together, he is an extremely hot person. In fact, I think that it would surprise people how sensitive he is for people and what situations they go through. The Stack family has not achieved much through talking. They achieved what they have in the race by keeping their advice and delivering the goods. “
