Join Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine for the first equine seminar of the Fall 2024 semester. During this seminar, titled “Minimally Invasive Abdominal Surgery: What Can We Do?” Dr. Rebecca McOnie, instructor in the Division of Vast Animal Surgery at Cornell University Hospital for Animals, will describe laparoscopy, one of the primary minimally invasive or “keyhole” surgical techniques used in equine veterinary medicine. McOnie will discuss the benefits of laparoscopy and highlight the candidates for this type of surgery. In addition, the seminar will cover the limitations of laparoscopy and explain when and why to consider laparoscopy for your horse.
This seminar is part of the Cornell Equine Seminar Series and will be presented via Zoom on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 6-7 p.m. Eastern Time. Please register in advance: https://bit.ly/ESS-Sept2024
Rebecca McOnie earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After four years on the Canadian prairies, she was thrilled to spend a year working in the heat as a rotating equine intern at Arizona Equine outside of Phoenix, Arizona. She then moved to upstate Up-to-date York where she completed a three-year residency in gigantic animal surgery at Cornell University. Dr. McOnie has since worked as a clinical instructor and is currently completing a fellowship in minimally invasive tender tissue surgery in gigantic animals.
The Cornell Equine Seminar Series is presented by Cornell Equine Hospital and Cornell Cooperative Extension. Equine experts deliver monthly lectures on vital topics in equine health and management. The event is free and open to the public. Media representatives are asked to register with Len Johnson.
