Newsells Park Stud has published its stud fees for next season with Classic sires Nathaniel (Irish) He received a raise to £20,000 and came second in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains last year Isaac Shelby (GB) launches for £7,000.
Perhaps best known as the sire of two-time Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and three-time King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Enable (GB) and Derby hero Desert Crown (GB), Nathaniel has gone on to have another successful year leaves the racecourse behind him in 2024, led by the exploits of his Irish Oaks heroine You Got To Me (GB), which is on sale during the Scepter Sessions at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale.
Nathaniel, now 16, covered 154 mares this season when he stood for £17,500 and Julian Dollar, managing director of Newsells Park Stud, is adamant the stallion still represents value despite his higher fee.
“I don’t know what else I can say about Nathaniel,” Dollar said. “With You Got To Me, an impressive winner of the Irish Oaks this year, he continues to produce modern Group 1 and Classic winners every year, albeit at a fraction of the fee of his colleagues.
“When you consider that only three stallions have produced English, Irish and French Oaks winners this century, and that the other two were Deep Impact and Galileo, you appreciate the company Nathaniel keeps.
“Only two other vigorous stallions have sired Epsom Derby and Oaks winners, Frankel (£350,000) and Sea The Stars (€250,000). So you can’t aid but see the incredible value it offers to breeders who dream of breeding a classic winner, but at an affordable price.”
Isaac Shelby's recruitment to Newsells Park was announced last week and Dollar also expressed his delight at how breeders have responded to his arrival at stud.
He continued: “We are delighted with the extremely positive response we have received to the news that Isaac Shelby will be joining us next year. As the first son of Night Of Thunder to stud and a top-class Group 2-winning two-year-old, a brilliant winner of the Greenham and narrowly beaten at the 2000 Guineas in France at three, he has a lot ahead of him Offer. His good looks should give breeders great confidence.”
The Newsells Park squad is completed by a first season sire Without parole (UK) and the multiple Group 2 winner A'Ali (Irish)who was represented at the sale this year with his first yearlings. Without Parole, the sire of 10 individual two-year-old winners in Europe at the time of writing, including fourth GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Fiery Lucy (GB), remains unchanged at £8,000, while the fee for A' remains unchanged. Ali is also unchanged from the £5,000 he was in contention for this season.
Dollar added: “Without Parole has made a great start at stud. 10 individual winners of two-year-olds coming in at a clip of 40% winners to runners and peppered with glowing youthful performers such as multiple group-placed Fiery Lucy, stakes-placed Sea To Sky and 96-rated Mr Chaplin provide some insight what awaits him next year with his first Classic harvest.
“A'Ali's yearlings finally looked exactly like they said on the box and they sold exceptionally well. Like his father, they had the appropriate looks and athleticism, giving the impression that they were probably just as brisk and precocious as their father. With prices ranging from 200,000gns, £150,000 and £130,000 and an average of £34,000, it was pleasing to see growers making a robust return on their cover fee.”
