Chantilly, a Homeban superstar for Millar Farms and coach Nick Gallucci, had to overcome 10 rivals and mighty winds to occupy the top position at 133,512 US dollars.

“It is always less than ideal to start a great horse in crappy weather, but she is a professional,” said Chantilly's driver James Macdonald. “When I moved her, she exploded and had the feeling that she would pull herself away and then the wind pushed me down and I almost grabbed (Millie May Hannover) bike.

“There were some tense moments there, but she's only a champion … we are unheard of and sometimes you will fall the little afterwards, but she just jumped forward again.”

Chantilly became fifth in the opening area and was moved to the outside when he took a back seat. Macdonald finally laid only one rival and settled in fourth place, while the leaders drove things in advance through breaks of: 26.4 and: 54.3.

Wicked N Single took the field with three quarters in 1: 22.4, with Chantilly discovering the third time.

Chantilly covered into a stiff headwind in the track. The 1: 9 favorite would become a striking Millie May Hannover before it finally gladed and began to win in 1: 52.0.

Chantilly, a daughter of Huge Jim, returned directly to the circle of the winner to start her three-year season after she had gone nine for nine years as a rookie and had received several O'Brien prices.

“It only seems a bit bigger to be a little stronger,” said coach Gallucci. “Your hops are longer, head test longer and only seems to have improved a little in all aspects of last year.”

Chantilly is entitled to the Pepsi North America Cup and is considered the first foal of stuff that has ever been nominated to Canada's most prestigious belt races. The date of this year's trophy is June 14th, the same date as the fan Hannover Stakes for Stutfalen.

“Either way, she will be in a substantial event that day in June,” said Gallucci. “At the moment it is only from week to week, just to make it as keen as possible for next week, she has a gold (Ontario Sires Stakes) next Saturday and then we will analyze the situation from there.”
