A pink sea that can sweep over Australia

The month of May is once again and that means that the pace for pink for 2025 is back – with a record number of drivers who attract pink pants to donate and raise awareness of breast cancer and the McGrath Foundation.

Since it was founded over a decade ago, the fundraising initiative has continued to be larger and better for the first time last year, which really makes the participation of every belt racing state an Australian effort.

In Victoria, on which 80 drivers and 20 pony trot competitors will take part, begins tomorrow evening (May 1st) at Kilmore with a Six event program.

Marg Watson, who is widely recognized as a backbone behind the pace for pink, is supported by a true army of helpers, but admits that she is still surprised by the numbers that come on board against the year 14 years later.

“We will see a record number of 220 drivers this year, with 31 in the pony trots too,” said Marg.

“It is fantastic to see more of the younger children this year who are so proud to wear pink and to be involved in the campaign.

“The main stamp for the Pink Day in Shepparton This Sunday (May 4th) has amazing support and some very special commitments in the industry, companies and individuals outside of the belt racing. They are complex times and the donations for the massive raffles and the mute auction were incredible.”

This meeting in the shepparton will also offer a special homage for outstanding backers and ambassadors of the Sport Greg Sugar, who suddenly died this week. The chairman of the HRV, Bernard Saundry, will act. For a minute, the driver and trainer form an honorary guard on the track.

The “pink” story began in 2011 when Watson came up with the idea of bringing her Cobram community together for a good cause – with all the income that goes to the McGrath Foundation.

Lunch took place in the local cable harvest racing club, and the funds of the Gate entries went to the McGrath Foundation.

When the pace for Pink Concept flourished, the home base later moved to the shepparton Haisness Racing Club to enable continued expansion.

Watson said a novel idea this year was a sponsored driver's challenge with 37 drivers who register.

The concept extends the rivalry around Pink Pants Supremacy from Strecke-Wobei Less-known drivers also have the opportunity to bring their name in the pink month in lights.

Each 5 dollar contribution that was made under the name of a nominated driver counts as a virtual victory -with some great prizes that organizes the most “victories” for the pure person.
