Chunk of Gold, a story of Kentucky Derby Cinderella

Piece of gold Is one of the “feeling of good” stories this year, which enters into the Kentucky Derby (G1) because the modest grown gray or roan colt, which only costs 2,500 US dollars as a yearling, gives every fan the feeling that they could also realize a day at the American race stage.

The son of Nature conservationist will be his run for the fame May 3rd Churchill Downs Around 19 of the country's best 3-year-olds. He will compete against horses that cost up to 1.2 million US dollars, but the proud colt has already opposed the expectations that its price could arise after he has already earned 348,818 US dollars.

Gold made of gold was bred by the overdue Brereton C. Jones, the founder of Airdrie Stud, and sold to Chris Melton in 2023 as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Kentucky. Terry Stephens and Melton first drove the Colt together and then Stephens Melton bought a privately.

“He was a Colt on May 11th, so we held it back for October (sale) to give him some time to ripe,” said Bret Jones, President of Airdie Stud. “That probably shouldn't be discussed, but I will be honestly forgotten as a yearling because he has tried to climb from his booth! Barrier to the point that it was grave worries.

Melton Pinhooks every year around 30-40 years and runs a training center in Columbia, Kentucky, where he breaks the adolescent horses and then sells them. He developed some talented runners who didn't cost much, including class 1 winner Nutella Fella the for 12,000 US Green on which was sold for $ 10,000.

The senders of Airdrie encouraged Melton to look at himself on the site on the site of the FASIG-TIPTON sales, and when he did it, he liked what he saw.

“I would reach up to $ 20,000,” said Melton. “When I got him for $ 2,500, I thought I missed something. He was a little immature, but you could say that he would be grown up and well -looking a horse, and he got it.”

Goldbeil from Gold broke for the first time on December 19th at December 19th Grass park For Melton and Stephens under the guidance of coach Ethan West. Since then he has three runners -up, including one last second place behind it Tizast in Louisiana Derby (G2) March 22.

“It was great to see what Ethan did to him,” said Jones. “He was obviously a rather strongly minded stallion foal, and that Ethan developed him into a legitimate Kentucky derby candidate. I think the stallion foal and his trainer have great future ahead of him.”

“When he ran in Turfway, I had half of him,” said Melton. “I sold my other part to Terry afterwards. I said Terry, if this horse makes it into (Kentucky) Derby, I would like to do two derby seats. So we dreamed gigantic.”

Melton will be in Churchill Downs on Saturday and not only celebrate his edged eye and see a piece of gold on the run for the roses, but also his 28th wedding anniversary with his wife Amy.

“We got married on the Derby Day 28 years ago,” he said. “He is the only horse in which we had a part where even the Kentucky derby. It means a lot, we are really proud of him.”
