Bürgerbullen training for the Santa Anita Derby

With the Kentucky Derby (G1) on May 3, a little less than one and a half months away, stalls have thought of their plans for the last two weekends of the huge preparations on March 29 and April 5.

With four of her 3-year-olds, who are currently at the top 21 in the qualification points from Kentucky Derby to the top 21, these decisions are still mainly in the air for the group SF Racing/Starlight Racing/Madaket Stalls-Heading Group.

The exception is Citizen Bull . According to Tom Ryan from SF Racing, the managing partner of the enormous group of owners with up to 10 separate interests, the reigning 2-year-old champion champion from Bob Baffert in the Santa Anita Derby on April 5 (G1) is training sharply for his last Kentucky Derby.

“Cross my fingers and toes, but it looks as if we are doing great weapons at the moment,” said Ryan. “Citizen Bull really comes into the Santa Anita Derby.”

The 1 1/8 mile-Santa Anita Derby is the second start at 3 for the son of In mischief who captured Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) last year. It was bred by Robert and Lawana Low and opened in 2025 with a dominant, front 3/4 length Santa Anita Park Bay Colt has a career record of four wins in five starts for Baffert.

“He is physically there. We have never worried about it,” said Ryan. “But he is also so mentally powerful, and this is a very critical criterion. He has the focus, the movement, the action, the sportiness, the strength you love. He was a deserved champion with 2 and he will be a 3-year-old with whom we have to calculate. We are very excited about him.”

Citizen Bull, who worked on March 17th 1:12, has already accumulated 60 qualification points, which was supposed to insure a place in the 20-hp field for the opening of the Triple Crown.

Madkeket Road Break Maiden in 2024 and Santa Anita Park

Madaket road Is 11. With 31 points during Rodriguez is 21. with 21.25 points. Fifty points are usually considered sufficient to crack the top 20. A year ago, 40 points secured a place in the starting gate.

Where you will drive next is undecided in the Arkansas derby (G1) and the Florida Derby (G1) and the trio of the Santa Anita Derby, Blue Grass Stakes (G1) and Wood Memorial Stakes (G2). Each of these races hands over the top 5 finisher 100-50-25-15-10 points.

“Decisions have to be made and they are all high-class decisions. The horses will tell Bob and he can mix the cards. It will be his decision. There is no one like Bob,” said Ryan about the six-time derby winner of Kentucky Derby. “He is so good at work out and let them get ready or withdraw them if necessary. He is a master of his craft. You can not set the experience that Bob has, no price for a price.”

Madaket Road (Quality road ) was the second in the rebel stands (G2) Oaklawn Park Last time Rodriguez (Real ) was third in the San Felipe Stakes (G2) in Santa Anita.

The other ways of the stable for the triple crown mix include cornucopia (In mix -free), a 1.1 million US dollar 2023 Keeland September year of purchase from the Gainesway show, which won his debut on February 23 in Oaklawn Park, and Voldemort ((Good magic ), a Maiden winner on March 14th in Santa Anita.

Just placed 1 Escape car is eighth with 46 qualification points, but plans for the son of Curlin are uncertain after a fourth place last weekend in the Virginia Derby as a 4-5 favorite.

“There is still no decision about the GetaWay Car. We have to let him go and make a decision,” said Ryan. “He is a game horse and he has the points to go to the derby. We will judge his situation in the next 45 days and make a decision. You cannot put a square pen into a round hole. Things have to be 110% or we do not give it up until summer. He is a brave activator. Is he a derby horse? We know more in a few weeks.”

If you consider that the group generally buys about two dozen yearlings a year, it is a remarkable performance for the selection team and Baffert to have at least six of them in the triple crown picture.

“I have the feeling that we have a nice harvest of 3-year-olds, a harvest that we can be cheerful about. We need such plants to interest people in the group, and I think people are getting pretty good for their dollars this year,” said Ryan. “If we can have more than one horse in the Kentucky derby, it will be an enormous performance.”
