Cap Ferrat gets his first victory in the HK derby

Jockeys said many different things after they won classic races, but the results of the Hong Kong Derby 2025 might have prompted a novel one: “He has never won a race until today.”

That was Craig Williams' summary of the 25: 1 Boss. The Snitzel In 13 starts in Australia and three more in Hong Kong, Wallach had become profitable before scored in the derby.

After Cap Ferrat in the first two legs of the derby series, the 12th and ninth place Hong Kong Classic Mile and the Hong Kong Classic Cup with 1,800 meters (approx. 1 1/8 miles)-the clever local spuns saw no reason to judge his chances in the 2,000-meter (approx. 1/4 mile).

The reversal of the form took a perfect journey and a little assist from an unfortunate misfortune of a main competitor.

Cap Ferrat started from goal no. 2 and took a stalking position nearby and right along the rail. He stayed there to the middle of the stretch as if Williams broke him in Paceesetter The driver Take the lead with 200 meters before walking.

Jockey Craig Williams and coach Francis Lui Savor Cap Ferrats Hong Konger Derby win

“He has never won a race until today,” said Williams. “Full Credit has to go to (coach) Francis Lui and his team and the owners of this horse because he entrusted Francis with him because I drove him three weeks ago and I said: 'You have a lot to do.' I thought he was really gross, very full of himself.

“It is certainly a special victory. It is such a prestigious race in Hong Kong. Francis called me, he was at the Sydney Yearling Sales and I was on the gold coast and he said: 'Would you like to come with ride cap cap?' I rode him when he was in Australia and I liked the horse.

Lui, the 2020 Derby winner and subsequent superstar trained Golden sixtysaid he kept the faith with Cap Ferrat.

“I still feel very excited. The last two runs he had bad undecided and bad luck. I checked his record and Craig rode this horse (in Australia) so that he knew the horse.

“Today he also has a good draw, he was very lucky and Craig knows how to ride this horse. He did a good job.”

Lui outlined no plans for Cap Ferrat. He has a lot to do to achieve Golden Six, which already entered the derby with nine victories, and won this year's Jockey Club Mile (G2) and Hong Kong Mile (G1) because his record -breaking career was in a high gear.
