Emotional victory for Jumal

The emotions were high when the Steven Reid Jumal trained (Downbytheside) They won today's 100,000 dollar group One Diamond Creek Farm two -year -old classic in Ascot Park.

Jumal is named after the owner JustColm Wrigley and his overdue wife SoFor what reason.

“It was something very special. That's why I'm getting so emotional,” said Wrigley, who has the gelding with Reid's partner Bella Storer.

Wrigley observed the youth victory from high up in the stands.

“I said to Steven,” she gave Sam (driver Sam Ottley) any instructions “, and he didn't really say. He knew that she would go forward (laughter).”

After Ottley led his wide gate early to freeze Frame and Carter Dalgety before jumping out of the way and taking the lead back.

“The first bend that I had to keep through breath. We ran there pretty quickly. He took a little step in, but when I brought him to the pens, he went attractive.

From there everything was jumal and the impressive gelding went on the line to win three and a half fourth lengths from the freezer frame, with the ideal crown seven and a quarter to third place.

“In the end he just hit around. In the end he just drove down to the line.”

With the winning out of the way, everything was left so that his nervous owner would go into the ground to get the congratulations.

“When I got down the steps, my legs were like jelly. Just as good, Jo (daughter) was in front of me because I thought I would tip,” said Wrigley.

Storer bought the then unnamed Colt, which was grown by Dave Kennedy from SBSR on behalf of Wrigley from the sale of 2024 annual turnover for 95,000 US dollars – far above his budget.

“It was only half of the story. I am stupid, I'm a business person and the penny never liked. It was plus GST, so it was over $ 110,000,” said Wrigley.

After buying Malcolm, Reid gave him twenty per percent of the horse with the prerequisite for two years no training fees.

“He came to me a month or two later and asked if he could give Bella his share.” I said: “I don't care as long as I don't get a bill for two years (laughter). “

Jumar has now won all three starts and won the admiration of his driver.

“On the first day I drove him, I fell in love with him and I love him every time I drive him.

The success of Group 1 was Sams second. Her last was in 2016 with the rocker band in Cambridge.

“Group care is complex to get to drive with a attractive one, and winning is something very special.”

Reid says that the talented youthful person will now go out a spell.

“I made the call four or five days ago. I thought about considering the welcoming missions. I always said that he would get better when he was three years elderly.”

The winning time of 2-40.6 was only a second outside of the race, the route and the Modern Zealand record of 2-39.6 to 2021 winners, which you do so well.

“If he deals like this on this route, he is a grave horse.”

The victory was Reid's twelfth success of group 1 and the first with a two -year -old male pacer.

“As soon as you start to win them, you really just want to win them. I recently said to someone that he could be the best youthful person I have trained. Now he's probably.”
