Nine hopes of hope, including incoming and church and state, will contest the 125,000 US dollars in Woodbine in Woodbine on Sunday.

The 6-Furgong Woodstock for three-year-old was traditionally an critical part of the legendary King's plate, the first stage of the Canadian triple crown series, which is set up on August 16.

Trained by Gail Cox for Barry Holmes, had a wound path that led to his debut at the beginning of this year.

“When he was two, he never went south to Florida,” recalled Cox. “He stayed in Canada – they brought him back from the back [2023 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling] Sales and thought he was sold, but it wasn't – so I had him in Woodbine briefly, but he was extremely green. He had an injury and then went home. So we could teach him a few things, but not that much.

“He came back last autumn and continued to train. The decision was then made to send him to Florida-he had to gain some experience. When he started in Florida, he grew up on a lot. He is a good looking horse-die people take it up and moves well.”

On February 12, Murky Bay was over 5 ½ Furlongs on the Gulfstream synthetics, which was generated by Flameaway from the thief by Shanghai Bobby Mare Gem Thief.

With 27: 1, the longest shot on the field of six years sent the pace on the three path, but faded fourth tardy.

“I found his first race very positive,” said Cox. “He completed the shipping from Toronto to Florida very well and also treated Gulfstream well. After this race, he really strengthened his game.”

The second start of incoming led to a virgin victory in the Hallandale Oval on March 14th.

Driven by John Velazquez, making it back, raced 13-1 in the middle of the pack on the inside of the back, before he brought a bid into the route and reached the ground tardy.

“He carried out a much more mature race,” said Cox about the three-quarter length in five fields about Gulfstream's synthetic course. “He had to have this experience of his first race to achieve this result.”

Before he drove north to Woodbine, scanning in Payson Park had a steady work in Payson Park, which on April 16 had a breeze with five Furlongs in 1: 02.80 on the dirt.

“He really grew up this year,” said Cox, who also will send out Kokomo – a Son of Flamaway, whom she also owns – in the Woodstock. “I think he comes into this race well. On April 18, he delivered to Toronto what gave him time to be ready. I think he will have a very good race – he has already won the synthetic, so we know that he likes this surface.”

The income was bred by Phoenix Rising Farms in Ontario.

Church and the state, a son of Caravaggio from the justification mare Full Snow Moon, will take its second start of 2025 in January after a fourth place in the Leonatus Stakes in the Turfway Park.

“The weather was not great and we missed a lot of training and spent about two weeks in the barn,” said coach Dale Desruseaux. “Shortly before they came back to the race, they cultivated the route and it was a deep surface. He was very tired after the race. I just don't think he was handling the route that day.”

The gray gelding was owned by Centennial Farms (Niagara) Inc., and gallops on two impressive victories to start his career in the last phases of 2024.

“When you look at him, he is not physically an impressive horse,” said Desruseux. “He is a bit like a greyhound. When we started breeding him a little longer to lead to his first start, you could see that he was moving in the right direction. He has his quirks – usually the good ones – but they are not unmanageable.”

In his debut, a Seven-Furgon main route race gathered on November 15th in Woodbine, Church and State from a second place from 11 to a 2½-length score at 9: 1.

“It was a very good race,” said Desruseaux. “I didn't think he would be as far back as he – I think Raffi [jockey, Hernandez] took it back. We had an insider post, and I think sometimes these teenage first starters look at the gap and lean on so that Raffi moved him behind horses, which worked great.

“But he's pretty practical. You can put it down wherever you want. Visually, it was a pretty impressive race. He moved well in the curve and exploded the lane.

Three weeks later, on December 6th, the Church and the state in Ontario from DP Racing, LLC secured a win with a mile and 70 meters over the same course.

“That was the real test. To be sincere, I am not sure whether he is a two-gymnastics horse, but he won this race with talent. I think he will end up with a seven-night horse. I look forward to getting it on the lawn.”

Church and State, a purchase of $ 15,000 (USD) at Keeland Association January 2023 Horses of All Age Sale, scored a trio from Brise on Sunday that led to the Woodstock in front of the Woodstock, including five Furlongs in 1: 00.60.

Desruseaux said: “He has had a very nice breeze in the past two weeks. The race could be a bit compact for him, but it looks like he is getting some speed to run.”

Rafael Hernandez on board all three pre -start receives the call on Sunday.

Matt Wray is the groom.

In last year's edition of the Woodstock, Midnight Mascot, a son of Army Mule, he achieved his first victory for coach Mark Casse and the owners Manfred and Penny Conrad. Curtolima won the first run in 1885.

The Woodstock is on Sunday with a 8 -race card race 7. The effective menu for the race includes the Rolling Double, Concasta, 0.20 trifecta, 0.20 Superfecta and 1 US dollar. The first postal period is 1:05 p.m.
