Time called for a champion: act now retired

The career of the Victorian Hardess Racing Star Act has now been time (Somewhere where).

Act is now gaining the Victoria Cup 2023 in a race around the time. He overcame injuries, a bad barrier and an outstanding field, including superstars such as Leap to Fame and catches a wave (Stu McCormick photo).

A winner of 22 races of 55 starts and with 910,885 US dollars in the bank, the Heng of Group 1 in Durham Park will start the stable stable with the student.

Act now, known as “Claude”, was a “once in life” for connections, a Tatlow, two breeder crown titles, a Victorian derby, a 4- and 5 -year championship by Catanach Jeweler, a Maryborough Gold Cup and a Victoria Cup.

The Victorian Reinswoman Jodi Quinlan has now worked together in all of his victories (in his first win as a two -year -old he was driven by Kima Frenning), and she said he was a special horse.

“He was a great horse for me – he was the ultimate racehorse when he was at his best,” said Quinlan.

“He had an explosive gate speed, especially as a juvenile horse, and I was always able to bring him into the race. And he had endurance that he could stay – he was just a very good horse. Skyola is always my summit horse, but now it would definitely be my next.

Act now, who was trained by Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin throughout his career, had two second -placed people as a two -year -old (behind Staffate Tough Tilly and Platinum Sparkle) before achieving his first victory in impressive fashion in Bendigo.

From there, Act now won seven of his next 10 starts. From September of his 3 -year season (2021) he scored a number of six consecutive victories and culminated in the cront title of Group 1 of the breeders and defeated Yambukian, Bettor Call Me and Rock N Roll Doo.

The majority of the victories of Act Now was posted when he was able to exploit his blasty gate speed from the goal, and lead everywhere -but Quinlan says that his victory of 2023 in the Victoria Cup 2023, a Grand Circuit event, was undoubtedly his best.

“This victory was incredible – only in the race itself was he in a hopeless position to win, by Barrier 11 and his back, but what had happened before showed the caliber of the horse,” said Quinlan.

“He went into the stands and was hung up in the stands before the race and cut his leg. We really didn't think he would run, but Clayton (Tonkin) said we wouldn't scratch him, we would wait and see how he warmed up,” she said.

“Clayton hid him and left him and did everything to take him there in the next few hours, and the veterinarian gave him fit to run.

“What he came out that night and I just couldn't believe. He was just so challenging.”

Quinlan said she was looking forward to seeing what the act can now do in the breeding stable.

“He has the view of a stallion – he is beautifully bred and had a great constitution, it was so good until he retired, he was challenging and quick – all the attributes that they want in a stallion.”
