Kentucky Derby presented the road for 2025 by Woodford Reserve this weekend in Modern Mexico is making a stopover for the Sunland Park Derby. The 1 1/16 miles race on Sunday in Sunland Park offers a total of 42 qualification points on a scale of 20-10-6-4-2 for the first jewel of the Triple Crown on May 3 in Churchill Downs. Last year's Sunland Park Derby winner, the fortress, won the Santa Anita Derby.
1. Itsmybirthday (20-1 Morgenline odds): The Vekoma Colt from the leading family of the leading Sire Tapit extends in the distance after they organize two sprint victories in the grass paradise. Has an early speed, but does not seem to be a type of need. Doesn't look overdated while he is exposed to the best competition in his career.
JOCKEY: Harry Hernandez; TRAINER: Robertino Diodoro
2. Remember Large Jim (12-1): A lot of speed in this race could bring the table closer to it, which always seems to win overdue. In the Riley Allison Derby in the Sunland on January 17th, from 14 lengths gathered to reach second place. A long look at 12: 1 on the morning line.
JOCKEY: Elvin Gonzalez; TRAINER: Dick cappellucci
3. Smash it (12-1): Third, as a chance-on favorite in the Riley Allison Futurity, after having driven some quick races in Southern California as a 2-year-old and completed in 2024 with a mission victory in Zia Park. The addition of Elite Jockey Geroux is a plus, but his best races were in sprints.
JOCKEY: Florent Geroux; TRAINER: Todd Fincher
4. Getaway Car (9-5): The Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert creates the winner of Stakes in Modern Mexico in search of his fourth career victory in this race. This stallion foal was the runner-up in 2024 in the American Pharoah Stakes of first class 1 of DK Horse and took second place in Los Alamitos Futurity in the 2nd class. The most likely winner, but he is challenged that the leadership and the numbers have a very low price.
JOCKEY: Juan Hernandez; TRAINER: Bob Baffert
5. Spenard (20-1): Huge class and distance test for well-bred spun to run Colt from the Von Birdstone family, which comes out of an outstanding victory in a maiden sprint in the Turf Paradise. Should be pronounced early.
JOCKEY: Luis Valenzuela; TRAINER: Tena Birdwell
6. Take over the load of Tom (8-1): He is 3-against-3 with a mission victory on this route in Riley Allison's one-mile fund. Is much stronger competition here, but it should be near the pace early and everything he does is win. Price is correct.
JOCKEY: Orlando Mojica; TRAINER: Robertino Diodoro
7. McKinzie Street (4-1): Drives the first start for recent trainers after he has pulled from the South California barn by Tim Yakteen. As a 2-year-old multi-year-old, but was well equipped in his two youngest starts when he faded overdue at shorter. Prefer others.
JOCKEY: Ramon Vazquez; TRAINER: Justin Evans
8. Touchy (7-2): A lot of speed could set up its final kick and it was competitive at this level. Endurance The large question in his first attempt to stretch after four sprints in the distance. First starter in Sunland for coaches with more than 2,300 career winners.
JOCKEY: Joel Rosario; TRAINER: Wesley Ward
9. Caldera (5-1): In his last start, a lithe bulb seemed to be a foremost roll with 5½ lengths at this distance on January 17th in the Oaklawn Park. Posted nice training for his Hall of Fame trainer. Win candidate.
JOCKEY: Rafael Bejarano; TRAINER: D. Wayne Lukas
The choice: Caldera
