Eldar Eldarov (UK) (Dubawi {Ire}), the European three-year-old stayer champion who won the St Leger at Doncaster and then the Irish edition at the Curragh, has been retired to Chapel Stud where he will cover a restricted number of mares. His stud fee was set at £5,000.
Eldar Eldarov was trained by Roger Varian and used by KHK Racing. He won five of his ten starts and collected over £1 million in prize money. His career was cut brief after he sustained neck injuries in a stable accident in Dubai last March.
Roisin Close from Chapel Stud said: “I would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for entrusting us with Eldar Eldarov. I am delighted to be able to offer a horse of this caliber to British breeders. Bred by Lanwades Stud, one of the best in the business, he has a pedigree full of top class racehorses and producers.”
She added: “He was an exceptional athlete and if it hadn’t been for that terrible accident he most likely wouldn’t be in my league. It is no secret that he suffered a potentially life-threatening injury in Dubai and it is thanks to his owner's commitment to his recovery that he is now able to serve as a stud stallion. Because his welfare is a priority, we will limit the number of mares he has. We will also offer a restricted number of breeding rights.
“I always have to pinch myself – having a three-year-old stayer champion and two-time Classic winner at Chapel Stud is a dream come true.”
Speaking on behalf of KHK Racing, Oliver St Lawrence added: “Eldar stood out in the Breeze-Ups as a stallion for the future, particularly with his fabulous Kirsten Rausing pedigree, peppered with Group 1 winners such as the tough Alpinista. “His will to win, his courage and his skills set him apart.”
