2025 Kentucky Derby Trail: Heat three, three cooling for February 18

This function offers a capsule view of three horses that are not quite as forceful as before, on the Triple Crown Trail and three horses, whose opportunities for the 2025 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve.

In the third edition of this blog for the 2025 Run for the Roses, the focus is on the changing landscape of the 3-year male division after the last two weeks of promotion.

Heat

1. Caldera

With a nice victory on Caldera in Sunland Park Derby on February 16, I started counting my money in an early distance when he bravely collected on the outside of the PacesATTERT -car and the confiscated command. I was obviously disappointed when the GetaWay car withdrew with one nose after an invigorating stretch duel, but I was impressed by the runner-up. Caldera, a stalwart gray or Roan -Colt from Liam's card, which was trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, seemed to lose a focus after taking the lead and allowed the winner to sit back on his inside. He was equipped with indicators to restrict his vision, and might have thought that his work was done when he came at the top, just to find out that huge races like this are rarely straightforward. He reached into players and fought to the finish line just to come just briefly. Caldera gave his assignment debut after a 5 -½ length victory in his third career start on January 17th in the Oaklawn Park and shows a promising trajectory. He has improved both his equibase speed figure and the Beyer vibration figure in each of his four starts, with a career-best-99-equibase-speed number and 91 Beyer-speed figure for the Sunland derby. Caldera still has some maturation to do, but Lukas will give him every opportunity to prove that he belongs to the derby trail.

2. John Hancock

John Hancock was a clamorous 5-2 favorite for Sam F. Davis Stakes on February 8 in Tampa Bay Downs, who achieved an impressive debut win of three lengths in January, and he has proven to be the task with one front. Run half length for coach Brad Cox. He looked through half a mile in: 46.23 pressure and had enough gasoline in the tank to win the race with a last Furlong in: 12.95. He didn't flew, but the constitution Colt ended somewhat well under the circumstances. Likewise, the speed figures were okay -a 96 equibase -speed number and an 85 Beyer -speed number, both incremental steps forward -but with only two starts there is space for improvements for this unbeaten colt at tactical speed.

3. Baeza

After a placed conclusion on Gras in his career debut and a second -placed Rodriguez in his second start, Baeza broke through a win on February 14th in Santa Anita Park in his third attempt for coach John Shirffs. The McKinzie Colt pressed a forceful pace of the second under Hector Berrios and was the best overdue in a 4-turn of victory that drove a mile and ended the last eighth of a mile in: 12.57. Shirffs won the Kentucky Derby with Giacomo 20 years ago, i.e. this half -brother (the same dam [mother]Different father) by 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage and 2024 Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch is in good hands. For the Maiden victory and a striking 93 Beyer speed figure, he earned a career best 100 equibase speed figure. He looks like a Colt Shirffs that is slowly brought and that now starts to find out things, and he is bred to be a star.

Also justified: I dealt with the last place Escape car But in my assessment of the victory in Sunland Park Derby on February 16, his existence did not boost much. There is a class level with a escape car that is quite firmly established at this point – it used a first class race and has won several missions, but it looks a step below the best of the 3 -year division. Getaway Car showed me some Grit in the Sunland derby and resolutely fought back to turn a challenger back with all the momentum. I'm just not sure how high the blanket for this curlin Colt is after it matched a career-best-99-equibase-speed figure. He deserves this number for the fourth time. … Piece of gold Finished 9 ¾ Lengths behind the out of control FASIG-TIPTON RISIES Star Stakes-Gewinn strength on February 15 on Fair Grounds. The winner would have been an absolute slam murky for the top position this week on this blog if he hadn't got out of the race with an injury. In view of the fact of how far he was on the finish line, it was hard to evaluate that Chunk of Gold, who passed six horses for second place at 43.30-1, happened. In two earlier races, he had shown promising-a debut victory and a second place in the one miles Leonatus Stakes, both on the all-weather surface in the Turfway Park-but I will be the verdict until his next start on the derby trail.

Frigid

1. Size

I presented the size on February 17th and was not in my praise of the stallion at that time after he had set a forceful pace and a hole in the wind in a 9 ¾-length rip into the $ 500,000-fazide-tongue -Stern sticks led in February. 15 on fair reasons. He earned a Monster 108 Beyer Speed character, which this year was the fastest for every 3-year-old for his risen star victory with 43.20-1. The size, which would have been a clear choice for the top position in the heating section this week, has a bone chip in his left ankle, which requires an operation. “We will only try to concentrate on the brilliance that he obviously has. Try to do everything to bring it back to this level, ”said the coach of size, Steve Asmussen, to Bloodhorse. “Obviously very disappointing for the entire team.”

2. East Avenue

This Bay Colt from Medaglia d'Oro looked as if he had written superstar about him when he last August in Ellis Park in Ellis Park with a 5 ¼ long -term win in the Claiborne Breederers' Futurity 1 in Keeland in Keeland The debut victory. That was enough to make him 9-5 favorites for the adolescent person of Fanduel Breeders' Cup, who was presented by Taa on November 1 at Del Mar, but things have not been going well for the East Avenue since then. He had a catastrophic start in the breeding cup youth and lost the chance of victory at the opening steps. In view of the built-in excuse from the Breeders' Cup, there was a considerable interest of the return of East Avenue as a 3-year-old in the risen stars on February 15. But to the size, the East Avenue grabbed it in the last curve and faded in the 10th place in the 12th place and was beaten by 22 ¾ lengths. It is too early to give up a winner of class 1 that was almost every expert at the top of almost every expert a week ago, but there is no sugar coating that was a fact that this was a bad way, Starting his 3-year-old 3-year-old to start his 3-year-old to start his 3-year-old to start his 3-year start to start his 3-year-old to start to start to start his 3-year start. -P campaign.

3. Treaty of Rome

Rome's contract went well in its debut when the weapons loaded in the Macho Macho Man Macho Man, but it is fair to question the quality of this field after weapons were then loaded into the Holy Bull Stakes (beaten of 33 ¼ lengths) and the Treaty of Rome ended 36 ¾ length behind the winner John Hancock when he was in the Sam F. Davis Stakes was ninth. The uncle Mo Colt was within two lengths of the tour after half a mile in 1 1/16 miles Sam F. Davis, but stopped. I would expect to see the next Treaty of Rome in a much easier point, and it would not surprise me to try the grass.

Remarkable: I noticed that Disco time Had had no published training on Fair Grounds since his victory in the Lecomte Stakes on January 18, and Daily Racing form reported that he missed the risen Star Stakes due to a compact setback. Every misstep at this time of year is worth mentioning, but hopefully he will soon be back in action for coach Brad Cox. … Also, Jonathan's way Missed a planned start in the star star after some blood work was classified as unsatisfactory. Last year's Iroquois Stakes winner and runner-up in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes will complete a treatment plan this week and hopefully will resume training in the near future. “No plans for now,” said coach Phil Bauer to Bloodhorse. “We will see how the training runs next week and put together a plan.”
